The organization of MXGP Argentina does not stand still and introduces new features in each edition. This year the Patagonia Race Track has new challenges for the riders and also for the fans, who will have the chance to see much more action from new places. Lucas De La Fuente, the track designer, tells us the details.
Awarded for five consecutive years as the best circuit of the MXGP season, Patagonia Race Track -located in the outskirts of Villa La Angostura- amazes visitors for its stunning natural scenery, riders for the challenging outline and fans for the great show they can enjoy from any sector.
Although the layout of the circuit remains unchanged from previous editions, for this year its designer, Lucas De La Fuente, prepared some alternatives that will add to the show and will also offer more places for spectators to enjoy the race.
“We modified some obstacles in the sector closest to the Village, and mainly in front of the new Grada Village,» De La Fuente said. We added some triples and different combinations, especially in one of the turns that now has waves that go up and down. Then the riders are going to find a new double jump right in front of the Grada Village.
«We believe that these changes will generate more lines and overtaking possibilities in that sector. The idea was to give a little more life to a sector that has always been very nice but which spectators will enjoy much more now, and also to expand a little the areas where something good can happen,» the designer said.
We will have to wait for the first free practices on Saturday to know how each rider will adapt to the changes, but De La Fuente believes it will be an important novelty for them: «For the riders it will change a lot because even though it’s the same layout, the new obstacles make it a completely new area which they will have to discover and analyse; especially the corner where it’s not so clear what the sequences are. There are a lot of possibilities.
«Usually, as soon as the race finishes, we start thinking and planning things for the following year. We are always looking for new places where the fans can watch the races, also taking into account their comfort, as there are people who want to be closer to the food service sector, or near the entrances, or simply to watch the races from different places,» he concluded.
