Córdoba Capital is getting ready to celebrate the World Motocross Championship (MXGP) on March 1-2. The MXGP Argentina YPF will mark the kick-off of the championship and the great contenders for the title will be racing at the Infinito Race Track.
As in the last two seasons and continuing what has become a tradition in recent years, the season will begin in the country, setting the stage for an electrifying battle for the championship in which the biggest names in the sport will compete for glory.
Undoubtedly, the Infinito Race Track – the new venue is only 20 minutes away from Cordoba’s international airport – will mark the beginning of a new era, both in the history of the World Motocross Championship in the country – after the fruitful experience in Villa La Angostura – and also on an international level. In addition to the new venue, this 17th edition of the GP of Argentina will start without the 2024 champion in the top category, Jorge Prado (he is racing in the United States) and without GASGAS (De Carli team will now wear orange and return to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing). This season promises to be unpredictable, with many favourites in the MXGP class (up to 450cc – 4-stroke engines).
Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Tim Gajser (Honda HRC), Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP) and Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team) already have World Championship titles in their careers achievements and will be looking for the glory again. Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team) will be another important contender. Jeremy Seewer (Aruba.it – Ducati Factory MX Team) will have the great honour of leading Ducati’s arrival in MXGP and Lucas Coenen (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) will surely be a new strong contender in the category.
In the MX2 class (engines up to 250cc – 4-stroke; rider age limit 23 years), Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing) will start his defence of the crown in Cordoba. To do so, he will have to face formidable title contenders such as Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Liam Everts (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing), Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory), just to mention a few.
Argentina and Latin America will also be strongly represented in this unique World Championship round on the continent. Joaquín Poli (Kawasaki) leads a long list of national competitors (9) that make up a total of 16 Latin American riders that make up the large entry list in MXGP. While in MX2, 15 Latam riders will be present, with 5 of them being Argentinian. Among the special features of the U23 riders, we can highlight the presence of Benjamin Pascual (Honda). The rider from Cordoba, who comes from a family strongly linked to motorsport and who has just made his debut in the Dakar Rally, will now do the same in the MXGP Argentina.
