Gleen Coldenhoff had been the main protagonist, leading more than half of the race; however, with four laps to go he started to lose performance and fell to sixth position, just ahead of Tim Gajser, who arrived in Argentina as leader of the championship and who had also been the one to look at in the practices.

The best Argentinean of the first race of the weekend was Lautaro Toro in 16th place.

Previously, Jago Geerts won the qualifying race among the MX2 bikes. The Belgian was strong in the race, dominating from start to finish over Tom Vialle and Kay De Wolf. Luciano Righi was the best local rider, in 14th place.
